Egg Number Three

I have been watching a Great Crested Grebe nest for a few days.  Initially there was four eggs, then on Monday one baby and on Tuesday two.  When I first got there this morning there was still two babies and two eggs.  The babies don't seem to come to life until about 8am so I went off to photograph a pair of Little Egrets in the distance.  They were perched on a branch preening, back-lit in silhouette against a pretty sky.  Despite wading out into the mud I could only get one in the frame, the other remained just out of sight.

On the way back I spotted a beautiful Nankeen Night Heron in the paperbarks.  At first he was in the shadows, but I was lucky, he flew off but came back and landed on a branch in the morning sun highlighting his cinnamon coloring and golden yellow eyes.

I headed back to the Grebe nest and as I approached Mamma Grebe stood up and three little babies fell out of her feathers.  The new one was very tiny and still wet.  He quickly scrambled back into Mum's feathers but I got a few shots of him just minutes old.
