Small Group or One on One Nature Photography Workshops

As part of a very exciting new chapter in life, Wild Wing Images has moved to a beautiful rural property at Meerup about 7klms from the tiny town of Northcliffe in the far South West corner of Australia. It is a place of stunning beauty, old growth Karri forest, Jarrah forest, deep rivers, dark overgrown wetlands, stunning beaches shifting dunes and rugged cliffs. I am passionate about photography and writing and this is the perfect place for those pursuits to flourish. For a while now I have wanted to run small workshops to share what I have learnt on my photographic and writing escapades over the past decade but also, and more importantly to create a forum for connection. Connection to self, connection to others, connection to life, connection to nature and connection to the earth. Photography has helped me enormously, to create a sense of belonging, to navigate the difficult times, to appreciate the bigger picture and to see light and beauty wherever I am, to see it within myself, to see it in others and to see it in the wider world.

Storytelling is in our DNA. It is an ancient skill that transcends time. It is how we as humans create meaning and connection with others and our surrounds. It is how we consolidate our experience and it is how knowledge and wisdom are passed to others. To tell stories is to share part of yourself. An invite to others to see and feel the inner landscapes of your mind, heart and soul. Storytelling can be a deeply vulnerable experience where events are woven with emotion, sensation, insight and thought. To hear or read a story is to touch the experience of another and bear witness to the good, bad, messy, unexpected, wonderful, tragic and ridiculously funny things that happen to us all. A good story takes time and care. Stories are a source of inspiration and creativity but more importantly they weave our being into the beautiful dance of life and slowly help us realize we are never alone. Photography and storytelling go hand in hand. To create a beautiful image you need ideas, thought, practice, knowledge, experience, skill and often luck. These are also ingredients for a story along with awareness of your inner world and an understanding of broader contextual elements such as environment, ecology, history and science. It takes practice, patience and time to weave these elements together with words but like anything, skill develops with consistent effort. Very often language is not enough, but somehow with a good weave and quality ingredients, words begin to shimmer and the magic speaks for itself.

I will be living at Meerup permanently from the month of April 2025. Once there I will be available for one on one or small group photography workshops. These workshops will be nature based but can be fully tailored to your interests and level of experience and include any of the following. I am very flexible and happy to design a workshop that will meet your requirements.

  • Using Your Camera in Full Manual Mode

  • Understanding Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed

  • Bird Photography

  • Wildlife Photography

  • Waterfall and Long Exposure Photography

  • Macro Photography including Spiderwebs, Insects and Plants

  • Orchid, Wildflower and Fungi Photography

  • Lightroom Processing

  • Creating Meaning with Storytelling
