It has been an interesting week!! First the Red Necked Avocets and now Great Crested Grebes. I absolutely love Osprey and Egrets but it was time for a change. I needed to find new territory so I headed to the lakes. A Great Crested Grebe floated past. It caught my attention and I started photographing. After a few seconds a tiny head popped out of the back feathers, then another and another and another!! I was amazed!! Four tiny stripey beasts with big baby eyes peeking out from Mum's feathers. Dad was near by diving for tiny food scraps which he brought over for the babies. I had no idea that grebes carried their babies around like this so it was a wonderful surprise and I just felt so happy watching them. Here are some shots of this weirdly beautiful family. There are more which will go in my recent photo gallery over the weekend. I noticed a few more nests so am hoping for more babies to photograph in the coming weeks!!
