One of the amazing things about photography is the realization that we never see all that is there. Often I will take a series of photographs and think I know what I have photographed. I usually check them out on the small camera screen as soon as I have finished shooting especially if I think I got something good. The interesting part comes when you load them onto the computer. Almost every time there is detail that I just didn't see when I took the photo. It may be tiny water droplets or the way light highlights a feather, or the texture of a blurred background, or a branch ruining the composition. It makes me think that this applies to far more than photography. No matter what it is we have filters that block or skew the underlying information and so does everybody else. We think we know what is happening, we think we have all the information but very rarely is this true. It is something I am much more aware of since I have been taking photos. I took this photo this morning. At first I was annoyed that the Osprey's head was hidden beneath his wing, but then I looked at the background. Blurred shades of green but with a wonderful texture and pattern. On closer look I thought it was extremely beautiful and something I did not even notice when I was taking the picture.
