I love this portrait image captured by my amazing friend Jennifer Noble at Denmark WA. I don’t have many photos of me and this one just captures who I am brilliantly. Xxx
As part of a very exciting new chapter in life, Wild Wing Images has designed a five day, four night photography and storytelling camp with places for 7 participants. The trip runs from a rustic farmhouse near Northcliffe and covers a broad range of photographic situations while exploring the diverse, rugged and very beautiful landscapes that surround Meerup, Pemberton, Windy Harbour and Walpole in the far South West corner of WA. There will be opportunity to photograph birds, frogs, marsupials, orchids, flowers, insects, spiderwebs, waterfalls, ocean, old growth Karri and Tingle forest, the ancient Warren and Frankland Rivers, the fascinating Yeagarup Dune System, a wild Southern Ocean, rugged coastal cliffs, pure white beaches, and billion stars at night. My first camp ran in October 2025 and was an incredible success made possible by a wonderful group of extremely talented, wise and enthusiastic ladies. You can read their testimonies below.
In 2026 Camp Meerup is running from midday Friday XXXXX through to 2pm on Tuesday XXXX. If this trip fills and there is enough interest I have the option to run a second camp starting on Sunday 11th October. I need at 6-7 participants to run so the second trip will only happen if there is enough interest.
For a while now I have wanted to run photography workshops to share what I have learnt on my photographic and writing escapades over the past decade but also, and more importantly to create a forum for connection. Connection to self, connection to others, connection to life, connection to nature and connection to the earth. Photography has helped me enormously, to create a sense of belonging, to navigate the difficult times, to appreciate the bigger picture and to see light and beauty wherever I am, to see it within myself, to see it in others and to see it in the wider world.
Storytelling is in our DNA. It is an ancient skill that transcends time. It is how we as humans create meaning and connection with others and our surrounds. It is how we consolidate our experience and it is how knowledge and wisdom are passed to others. To tell stories is to share part of yourself. An invite to others to see and feel the inner landscapes of your mind, heart and soul. Storytelling can be a deeply vulnerable experience where events are woven with emotion, sensation, insight and thought. To hear or read a story is to touch the experience of another and bear witness to the good, bad, messy, unexpected, wonderful, tragic and ridiculously funny things that happen to us all. A good story takes time and care. Stories are a source of inspiration and creativity but more importantly they weave our being into the beautiful dance of life and slowly help us realize we are never alone.
Photography and storytelling go hand in hand. To create a beautiful image you need ideas, thought, practice, knowledge, experience, skill and often luck. These are also ingredients for a story along with awareness of your inner world and an understanding of broader contextual elements such as environment, ecology, history and science. It takes practice, patience and time to weave these elements together with words but like anything, skill develops with consistent effort. Very often language is not enough, but somehow with a good weave and quality ingredients, words begin to shimmer and the magic speaks for itself.
I am not a technical person and my trips will not be about creating perfect images or stories but rather to expand on the meaning and connection photography and writing can bring to your life. It will be a different experience for everyone. Each trip brings together individuals with unique backgrounds, life experience, skill, knowledge and wisdom. There will be different perceptions, strengths, ideals, priorities, beliefs and obstacles. It is in the difference that wisdom dances. There is so much we can learn from each other with the space between always an opportunity to grow, to deepen understanding of self and to lift others up with kindness and humour.
While this trip has a focus around photography and storytelling you do not need to be a photographer or even own a camera to attend. Last year my 80 year old Mum came along and was able to participate and enjoy all of the activities and program. I also had a guest who was not a photographer but was interested in creativity, storytelling and landscape. Both Mum and my non photographer guest captured beautiful images and had a wonderful experience. These days, phones can be used to create images and I have spare cameras, GoPros and various lenses, tripods and equipment guests can use. You can view a gallery with some of the incredible images captured by last years guests and myself with the button below.
