Orchid season last year! So very lucky to find a pair of flying ducks.  I have found these guys in a few different spots and each time there has been at least one double header but always in bud or looking bedraggled in someway.  I went back to a spot I had visited a few days earlier to investigate more closely and realised I had literally walked right past a nice little population of these guys.  The Flying Ducks and Hammer Orchids like the nutrient poor white sand, the habitats of Ticks, Christmas Trees and Banksias.  These ones were growing in a sandy bank where lots of rubbish has been dumped over the years, growing between an old tyre and pile of decaying fencing.  So sad to see rubbish in almost all the spots I visit that are close to major roads!! I was super excited to find about thirty flowering plants, took some photos and headed back to the car.  As is often the case I found this perfect specimen about ten metres from where I had parked, growing on the side of the track!!  So rare to find flowering plants of this species and even rarer to find a beautiful double header, with both flowers in perfect condition, in almost the same plane making focus and composition easy!!  It has been a good day!! Feeling pretty pleased with myself!!
