I usually wake up early especially when I am camping.  I like to head into the forest either in the car or on foot, find a spot and watch the dawn come in.  Changes of colour and light and sound as the forest slowly wakes.  While I am waiting I usually boil some water, make a thermos of tea and maybe hot chocolate, wash my face, brush my teeth, detangle my hair and check my cameras to make sure there is space on the cards and batteries are good.  I was in the process of doing all this when I heard movement behind me and noticed this little Wallaby the shadows.  He seemed quite friendly and wasn’t really bothered by my presence.  When the sun finally came up he was still there and had moved into a patch of sun.  The light caught the soft texture of his fur and the rich chocolate brown and white markings.  A beautiful face!  We were both still half asleep kind of staring blankly at each other. Alone together? His eyes kept closing, mine were pretty bleary and I couldn’t stop yawning.  He would startle awake and have a scratch and then close his eyes again as if it were all a bit too hard.  I also found a patch of sun and spent the next hour or so drinking hot chocolate and photographing as he woke up, preened and started foraging for green shoots in the undergrowth.  Eventually he hopped away!
